Alan Mackenzie Visit

The Year 5s and 6s had the pleasure of an Online Safety Consultant, Alan Mackenzie teaching us the the importance of how to be safe online.  He enlightened the children with online disinhibition and how your words can affect others behind the screen. They went away highly informed.

In the evening, Alan Mackenzie delivered his parent talk.  The Digital Leader team kicked off the event with an introductory presentation about their online lives with a snap-shot into the games, activities and influencers they follow.

Alan educated parents on the four areas of risk children face online: Content, Contact, Conduct and Commercial. He outlined the current platforms that children are using, followed by a final section on steps parents can take to help protect their children online.

The talk received positive feedback to say how insightful the talk was. We look forward to welcoming even more parents next year!

Following on from his talk, Alan has shared a summary of the information he presented and some useful links, in a parent information pack that you can find here below:-

Tuesday 14th March 2023

Volunteers from the NSPCC delivered their "Speak out. Stay safe." workshop to Years 5 and 6.  They talked about the importance of being able to speak out if there were ever any problems. They discussed physical and mental health with us and taught us about boundaries and speaking up for ourselves. After the talk was over, the ladies gave us a range of activities to do with mental health scenarios and also gave us the materials to make a chatterbox (a paper ‘fortune teller’) based on scenarios that may come up. We have benefitted so much! Our children held insightful conversations and meaningful discussions with one another and handled example scenarios in an extremely mature manner.
